2017 Science Fair Rules
Requirements
Projects should demonstrate a scientific principle or solve a problem using the scientific method. The project should include the following elements:
- Title (ex: Flowers Have Water Power)
- Question (ex: do flowers drink water?)
- Hypothesis--educated guess of outcome before conducting experiment--(ex: I think flowers use their stem to drink water and deliver it to the petals)
- Methods/Procedure--a planned and documented experiment to test the hypothesis (ex: white carnations placed in blue water and observed for days)
- Research—research needs to be posted on board or placed on table in front of board (ex: documents/graphs/data on how plants obtain and utilize water for growth/nutrition)
- Results—results of experiments (white carnations turned into blue carnations and water level decreased in vase)
- Conclusion—student’s interpretation of results as it relates to hypothesis (the white carnations absorbed the water from the stem to the petals, turning the petals blue)
- Name/Grade/Teacher BOTTOM RIGHT corner of display; covered up with post-it for judging post-it will be removed after it is judged.
Safety
Hazardous materials or substances are prohibited from displays. No electricity will be available during the Science Fair to power motorized experiments.
Adult supervision of experiment is suggested.
